RNLI Rescue Day

Wednesday 10th of August i was down at the RNLI Ilfracombe Station assisting with the Rescue Day, lots and lots of activities where going on down the pier and in the station. In the station we had the usual tea, coffee and the activities (coins on the mersey, book sale, tombola, toy tombola and the guess a station game) on the pier there was a mix of all the emergency services (RNLI Stall, Coastguard, St Johns Ambulance, Ambulance, Police, Armed Police, Fire Brigade and the Youth Education Fire Officers) There where three events on the pier for that day the first one was the chip pan demonstration and second was someone being cut out of the car. The RNLI, Coastguard, and the Lifeguards did three demonstrations, I only saw one of them because i was the mascot for a few hours and was floating around the pier getting involved in the activities and have lots of photo’s taken. The rescue day was a great success i will post the amount raised when i know, (watch the space) Piece out Y’All

RNLI Summer Splash

The Big Summer Splash event that was held at the Ilfracombe RNLI Station had a huge turn out on Sunday and we have raised somewhere in the region of £1200 for the RNLI. We had raffles and tombola’s running throughout the day. at 1:30pm everyone headed down towards the quay to watch the big rescue display. For the rescue display we had the Beach Lifeguards and the HM Coastguards in to put on a few demonstrations. The main rescue involved a yacht on fire in the outer harbour, with the crew in distress they all abandon the smoke stricken yacht the HM Coastguard swims out to collect one of the crew followed by the smaller inshore lifeboat. And then Lifeguards on the jet ski. after the crew had been recovered to safety the Spirit of Derbyshire All Weather Lifeboat had then gone in to put out the fire, when the fire was out the crew then proceeded tow the yacht into the harbour. When the display had finished the Allweather Lifeboat had been moored up aside the slipway so that members of the public could go aboard. when the event was coming to an end the Volunteers and Committee members had the opportunity to have a ride out on the boat, we went to Combe Martin bay and back again i must say being one of those who had a ride on the Lifeboat was such a privilege and very exhilarating to be on such a boat. sorry for the late post i started writing this 3 days ago. Peace out Y’All
